With both our parents born in East Africa, we enjoyed a great and somewhat unique childhood in Africa.... Moving and living in various parts of the continent.
After leaving Kenya, we went to South Africa where I studied and graduated in Fine Art....
In the 70's I came to the UK to continue studying Graphics, Photography and early 'Multimedia', while also lecturing in Painting and Figure Drawing.
I freelanced in illustration in London while holding three fine art exhibitions.... Worked as the furniture designer in bespoke design company - 'Assagai Designs' - in Dorking (South of London), before returning to South Africa, where I worked across the spectrum of - art/illustration/design/model-making/advertising/TV commercial/packaging design/exhibition design fields.... And a later, I added 3D (Alias Maya) to my skill-set.
My employed positions included - Art & Creative Director (medical and Saatchi & Saatchi)... And I formed and partnered in two joint (multimedia/3D/design) ventures, before returning to the UK in 2001.
The 'pre-arranged' Art Director position failed to materialise, when the Agency folded (with the 'bursting bubble'), so I packed shelves and swept streets for a couple of months before gaining a position at News International newspapers, as an illustrator/designer... After four years there, I returned to contract working in design and multimedia, (all the while, trying to maintain my painting and photography).... With the field of multimedia and 'e-learning' growing, I moved increasingly in that direction, becoming the senior 2D/3D Designer/Creative Director in an Anglo-American E-learning company.
After my 10 years as the Multimedia Officer / Specialist & Producer for the Distance Learning team at King's College (university) London, I contracted in similar roles with Imperial College London and Cranfield University. (up to Nov 2019).
Most recently, I have been freelancing, (remote) project working and 3D modelling... (and getting back to 'my roots' in painting and giving art classes)
